WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: Back to Basics

7 months, 188 days and 4,518 hours into a hell of a year.

From Australian bushfires to a global pandemic, the impact has affected each and every one of us in different ways. Home office, online shopping and social distancing are the new standards, which means sitting and screen time statistics have risen drastically.

A study conducted by the New York Times1 in April 2020 tracked online traffic with an outstanding 19.43% increase in average digital engagement pre- and post- COVID-19 in the USA alone.

People are looking to connect digitally, but what about connecting to yourself? So. Let’s get back to basics – Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

The theory proposes that the human nature of motivation follows as such: one must satisfy their basic physiological needs before progressing to the highest category of self-actualization2

Simply put, we must eat before we think.

The similarity between Maslow’s theory and mobility is quite simple. Both are based on foundation.

In order to achieve greater physical goals, you need a solid foundation. Mobility encompasses three aspects that will enable you to set and surpass those goals: range, motion and function.a
